The author, Leslie R. Groves, was a Lieutenant General who directed the Manhattan Project. He gives a full account of the projects beginning from the start of 1942 through the days after the war, when the Atomic Energy Commission was established in the United States. The appendices at the end of the book provide readers with primary historical materials, such as reports and memorandums, followed by a bibliography of the atomic bomb literature.
