NIHON HIDANKYO, Japan Confederation of A-Bomb Sufferers Organizations, made a thorough investigation about atomic bomb survivors’ experiences of the A-bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. From November 1985 to March 1986, the organization asked large numbers of general survivors to answer questions such as, “What of that day and after, is most vividly imprinted in your mind?” The editorial members selected 1,000 cases out of some 13,000 responses, and recorded them in two volumes of this book. Survivors’ accounts are classified into four categories: Direct suffering; Suffering on entering the city; Suffering through relief activity; Exposure in Utero.
