Southard, Susan. Nagasaki: Life after Nuclear War . New York, Viking, 2015.
History and Social Sciences, Memoirs
The author, Susan Southard, traces five atomic-bomb survivors' postwar family histories from 1945 to the present day. She had conducted repeated interviews with the survivors over ten years. The American author, moreover, criticizes measures of the United States government and the military authorities, pointing out their concealment and minimization of facts. The 50-page list of references and notes at the end of the book show her passion for the publication of this book. This book has received the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize. The book was also named the best book of the year by The Washington Post, The Economist, the American Library Association, and Kirkus Reviews.
